Some high-school athletes can participate in NIL; the answer depends on the applicable association, school rules and the proposed activity. Check those requirements before accepting compensation.
Identify the rules that apply to you
Start with your school and governing association, not a national yes-or-no list. Ask for the current school-year policy and any later notices. Describe the actual proposal: sponsor, compensation, content, dates, location and intended use of your name or image.
For example, the 2026–27 MPA handbook, Appendix DD, permits NIL subject to restrictions, while the AHSAA amateurism rules require a different analysis. A rule from another state is not clearance for your project.
Four checks before a commitment
Take a specific proposal to the right reviewer
| Bring | Ask |
|---|---|
| The proposed agreement and sponsor identity | Is this activity permitted for my situation? |
| Designs, photos, uniform and location details | Which school-affiliation or rights restrictions apply? |
| Deliverables and compensation | Are there prohibited incentives, categories or terms? |
| Dates and existing commitments | What must be disclosed or reviewed before proceeding? |
Prepare while questions are unresolved
You can organize records, practice writing a project brief and make a private list of questions without treating the project as approved. Use the first-offer checklist and agree on a parent or guardian’s role. Do not post the promotion or accept the proposal merely because the deadline is close.
Influxer platform availability and individual eligibility are separate. Confirm the options for your program and your actual agreement; no platform can promise that every high-school project complies with every governing rule.
Your next useful step
Before responding to an offer
Check who sent the inquiry, what is requested and which school process applies. A message can be worth exploring without being ready to accept.
