Alabama high-school NIL planning starts with the rules for your school and association. Use the source note below to distinguish a checked policy from a question that still needs a current answer.
Source and review status
2026–27 handbook and amateur rule checked September 26, 2026.
The 2026–27 AHSAA handbook, Rule I Section 8, retains an amateurism standard that restricts using athletic knowledge or skill for gain. Do not treat general national NIL availability as permission for an AHSAA athlete. Ask the school to obtain an official interpretation of the specific proposal before accepting compensation.
Bring the real project to the review
Make your school question specific
| Bring with you | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| The offer and current policy edition | Which rules apply to this athlete and activity? |
| The actual draft advertisement | Are its school references, clothing and setting permitted? |
| The sponsor’s requested rights and dates | Which uses or timing need a separate review? |
| The proposed review and publication schedule | What must be completed before accepting or publishing? |
Keep a record of the answer
Save the source edition and the date you checked it. Record unresolved questions with an owner and follow-up date. If a rule or school-year document changes, revisit the proposal rather than assuming an earlier answer still covers it.
Organizing a draft and asking questions is separate from activating a paid project. Where requirements remain unclear, keep the project on hold. A qualified adviser can help review contract questions; the school or association handles its own eligibility process.
