Graduating This Year? Plan Your Athlete Merch Transition

Treat graduation as a transition project: confirm which designs and agreements can continue, verify your account arrangements, and tell supporters exactly what is changing.

A six-week graduation transition board

Suggested planning sequence—not a production deadline
When Work product Question to resolve
Six weeks before Artwork and agreement inventory Which dates, school references and images are in use?
Four weeks before Written questions to the relevant contacts What may continue, and under what terms?
Two weeks before Draft announcement and checked destination Can supporters reach the products described?
Announcement day Accurate public update Is a closing date real and confirmed?
After the change Bio and link review Do old recommendations still make sense?

Use “final collection” only when you have confirmed what is actually ending. A countdown should have a real operational basis. If you cannot confirm continued availability, say that you are reviewing next steps rather than promising a permanent store.

Save the account contact, agreement version, permitted artwork uses and support route in one private note. Graduation does not itself establish whether a license ends or continues. Ask about future account access and any remaining payment obligations under the actual agreement. Keep old photos as historical records without presenting them as a new endorsement.

Ask about account and agreement continuity

Confirm whether your store can remain available, how contact details should change, what happens to outstanding payments under your agreement and who answers future support questions. Do not assume graduation automatically ends or extends a license. Keep a copy of written answers and the agreement version they refer to.

Before you finish

  • Verify the future support and account contact.
  • Remove unconfirmed closing dates.
  • Check the updated bio and destination from a supporter’s phone.

For current NIL policy resources, start with the NCAA’s NIL guidance and the process for your own school and governing association. These worksheets do not determine individual eligibility or grant artwork permissions.
