Where Should Your Athlete Merch QR Code Go?

Place an athlete merch QR code where someone can stop, aim a camera and understand the destination. Include a readable link or route alongside it, and test a printed sample in its actual setting.

Match the code to the viewing situation

Placement decisions
Location Practical treatment Test before use
Tabletop card A stable, flat card beside a short destination label. Scan while seated and standing at the expected distance.
Printed handout High-contrast code with its empty border intact. Print at final size; test on more than one phone.
Poster Place at an accessible viewing height where people can pause. Test from the actual approach distance and lighting.
Social post Use a tappable link where the channel supports one. Can a person using that same phone reach the destination without a second device?
Curved or moving surface Choose a flatter, still alternative when possible. Check glare, folds and movement; do not trust the design preview alone.

Create the code from the final public URL using a tool that preserves the required empty margin around the pattern. Avoid placing a logo over the code, shrinking it to fit a crowded design, or relying on a low-contrast color combination. There is no universal print size that works at every distance: test the final physical piece.

If a QR provider uses a redirect, check who controls that destination and whether it can expire or depend on a subscription. Save the final encoded URL in your link inventory. A scan count from a provider is not automatically a unique person, a purchase or a completed athlete account. Compare scan data with the destination’s available analytics without treating unmatched activity as confirmed conversion.

Give the code space and contrast

Keep the code on a plain high-contrast area, preserve its surrounding clear space and avoid stretching or decorating the modules. Use a short label explaining what opens, such as “View my athlete merch.” Do not place a decorative code into artwork and assume it will work after printing. Test the actual exported file and a physical proof.

Before you finish

  • Scan the printed item, not only the on-screen image.
  • Confirm the athlete identity after the page opens.
  • Keep the border clear and provide a normal alternative route.
